The term tui na (pronounced twee naw), which literally means pinch and pull, refers to a wide range of TCM therapeutic massage and body work. Tui na is not generally used for pleasure and relaxation, but rather as a treatment to address specific patterns of disharmony.
In Arizona, the practice of Tui na does not have set standards, nor does it require licensing or certification. Many Shiatsu Therapists, bodyworkers, and licensed massage therapists take continuing education courses (which range from 12 to 30 hours in length) and receive Tui na course completion certificates; they add Tui na techniques to complement their practice, along with acupressure, reflexology, and massage.
